...is a stylised blue lotus flower (Nymphaea caerulea): it is the symbol of the ancient Egyptian god Nefertem (the “entirely perfect one”). Nefertem emerged at the beginning of time, together with the sun, from a lotus flower. He is depicted as a human with a closed lotus flower on his head or in his hand. He is the god of healing and beauty because of his creative power derived from chaos and the god of healing ointments because of the healing properties of the lotus flower, and he is the patron of all healing arts. The lotus flower is still used in Chinese and Ayurvedic herbal medicine to this day.
